What To Wear Under a Backless Dress
You know when you find THE backless dress, it's gorgeous, it's on sale, it's basically calling your name from the rack? Then you hold it up and go: right, but what do I actually wear under this thing 😅
Because a normal bra is out. So here's the honest run-down on what to wear under a backless dress, ranked from meh to game changer.
Option 1: The stick-on bra (aka the great escape artist)
Look, they exist for a reason and sometimes they're fine. Adhesive cups can give you a bit of shape and lift, and if your dress has a proper front they can be your bestie for the night.
The catch? They love to peel. One warm room, one dance floor, one bit of sweat and they're quietly making a break for freedom. If you go this route, apply to totally clean, dry, moisturiser-free skin and press firmly. (You can always add a bit of CLUTCH here as well to reinforce its stickiness!)
Option 2: Just go free (and secure the dress instead)
Here's the plot twist. Half the time the real problem isn't your chest, it's the dress sliding, gaping at the sides, or the low back creeping up when you move.
So instead of fighting to wear a bra that can't survive a backless cut, you flip it. Go braless and lock the fabric to your skin so nothing shifts. This is where CLUTCH comes in.
You paint it on, wait till it goes tacky, then press the dress down. It holds through dancing, sweating and hugging Aunty Deb goodbye. It washes out with water and it's vegan, so no dodgy residue on your good frock!
Option 3: The plunge or backless converter bra
If you genuinely want support, a low-back converter bra with a strap that sits under the shoulder blades can work for dresses that dip but don't go ALL the way down. Great for bigger busts who want a real anchor.
Just check the back of your dress is high enough to hide the band. Nothing kills a backless moment like a beige strap peeking out for a wave.
Quick tip: do a 24h patch test first
Whatever you stick to your skin, do a little patch test 24 hours before the big day. Pop a bit on your arm, wait, make sure your skin's happy.
